Success Stories
 Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA - helping-Brands by John R Fugazzie

On January 2025 we will celebrated 14 years and counting for NhNUSA as we have helped over 2000+ people land jobs though participation in our organization.

We had documented testimonials of over four hundred personal success stories how NhNUSA organization has
helped them return to work, go into business, and improve their professional networks.

Our volunteer leaders landed jobs at 85% rate

Though the years we found that those who step up to volunteer and help lead many of the efforts of our organization improve and hone their leadership skills. Giving of their time to the other members to assist them in being successful allows them to improve on their leadership skills. Companies and Organization want people with demonstrated leadership skills.

Our LinkedIn Group is strong and many are recruiters and community businesses leaders who want to help our members land work.

Facebook Group
Networking is critical to your job search success.

I myself was the 3rd success story for Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA and my NhNUSA work has helped me to transition to my current career and helped provided me with the national subject matter expert status.

My youngest son Tyler landed his position as Marketing and Communications Manager at Virtual Enterprises via a NhNUSA member sending him a job lead

The River Edge based support group started on January 27, 2011.

Our success stories are important to all of us and we ask you share them in your own words and with as much detail as you are comfortable with. We only use first names and meeting locations or our virtual group locations when reporting out successes.

Our group is extremely proud of the work it has done and the large number and rapid rate of success stories of members getting jobs.

We encourage you to connect with our success stories on the NhNUSA LinkedIn group as when they land their network grows and they can be more helpful with connections.

We always need to find volunteer facilitators, as our facilitators seem to land faster than our general members as they take on responsibility and show leadership skill, which allows them to be more attractive job candidates.

Founders appeal to you to tell your story, It is important for those who are still find a job and job advancement difficult that those who we have helped in any way tell their stories, the effort to chase down those that have landed is more than I have time to do, as i need my time spent earning a living and doing all the volunteer work i do, This organization is incredible and as you all know I have extreme passion to help others, I am also training others to learn our system offer our meetings so our capacity to help others keeps increasing.  I ask that all of you who have benefited in any way from association with our group, our members, my input and our social media efforts and online resources take a few minutes and in your own words tell your story that can be motivation to help others.   You do not have to identify your full name your first name and group or resource you used. You are the one who is responsible for landing a new job and a career advancement, we are here to help. Please share your story to the degree you are comfortable as it will help others, and this is the pay it forward culture of all we do.  Thanks

Great success stories:

Pastoral Ministry Leader Pastoral Ministry Leader, Barbara worked with John R. on the same team  May 17, 2022

I’m 2011 I was diagnosed with cancer while my siblings and I took care of my mom who was dying from cancer.
I was devastated. I was surrounded by death. Filled with fear of dying. I prayed to God for a life preserver. Something that would shift my focus from death to life.

One morning I looked at our town paper, something I rarely do, and saw an article entitled ‘Neighbors helping Neighbors.’

In 2008 I started writing a blog called People helping People because I believe that we need each other to navigate life.

I read the article and recognized a kindred spirit in John.
I called him, told him about my experience and asked if I could be of any use to those he served. He said yes right away and asked me to attend a few meetings. He wanted me to work with another volunteer to start a NhN group in the Ridgewood library.

After we got the group started John asked if I would coach some of his dedicated volunteers as a way to thank them.

I never told John about why I reached out to him 11 years ago until today 5-17-2022.

He has helped countless people throughout these years and continues to be a shining light of human goodness, dignity and respect.

Thank you John. You saved my life, gave me hope through serving those in need.

I look forward to helping you write your story one day! ☺️

Inspiring leaders to inspire
May 3, 2022,

John and I established an alliance across the Atlantic that was a total success with the establishment, thanks to John's leadership and support, of NhN in Spain. We helped 100 people land jobs. I was invited by John to talk at FDU leadership class where I met a group of very enthusiastic students. John's generosity and leadership are some of his essential features. I am very gratefully to him.

Dave Bruno
Top Store Leader at H-E-B

I first met John in January 2020. The company I was working for was going out of business and having mass lay offs. John was instrumental in establishing a website that connected these recently laid off team members with prospective employers elsewhere. John also mobilized the connections within his own substantial industry network on behalf of those recently displaced to help them find work. John did this completely out of the goodness of his heart. John has blessed many with job placements and given hope to many many more displaced workers from Lucky’s Market’s closing. John is a leader, a self starter, and a reliable partner, possessed of a generosity of spirit that is in short supply in our world today.

Approximately 9 yrs. ago I was unemployed, older, and things were looking pretty bleak. John was a key player who helped turn things around for me. Here I am 9 yrs. older, and still gainfully employed with one of the best jobs if my long career. Thank you John !

John Fugazzie is a highly ethical and caring leader who truly embodies Servant Leadership, one of the most effective and needed type of leadership nowadays. John has touched the lives of thousands through a powerful network build on the concept of HELPING people going through job loss and those paying it forward HELPING others. The Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA network John founded in his former River Edge neighborhood in NJ has now scaled to become network of HELPING brands, and a statewide organization growing exponentially at both domestic and international levels. John’s leadership traits of listening, empathy, healing, foresight, and stewardship along with his commitment to empower people and community have been key for his success in both the Education and Workforce Development fields.

I have witnessed John’s efforts in the local community grow and rapidly materialize over the last five years. And I have had the pleasure to contribute and serve as a leader in the Neighbors helping Neighbors Chapter in Fort Lee, NJ, and as a mentor in the Women Helping Women Chapter, Englewood Chapter. His work has truly inspired me and moved me to action in my community.

If it wasn't for John Fugazzie and his extreme diligence and hard work I would still be unemployed. John and I met under unfortunate circumstances when I was wrongfully terminated at work. Although I wish that never happened, I'm ecstatic that John introduced me to people in his enormous network. Not only did he help me that very instant, but I was contacted by people in his network that same day and I was able to get back on my feet. John is a standup guy and now through thick and thin, became a real friend of mine.

John and I have been colleagues in the corporate world but worked most closely in the organization John founded, Neighbors-helping-Neighbors. John was part of a neighborhood support group for individuals in career transition. The economic conditions at the time were quite dire, and John spearheaded the growth and expansion of the organization, helping hundreds of people re-invent themselves and secure new and rewarding positions. In my experience as a personal advisor and Board Officer for NhNUSA, I found John to be passionately dedicated to helping others and making a success of every endeavor he is part of, whether in academia, not-for-profit, or corporate. John establishes productive relationships and has the knowledge and drive to deliver solid results.

Professor Fugazzie is a mentor, master net-worker, and problem solver. His platforms have allowed employers and employees to connect. Neighbors helping Neighbors provides a positive environment to assist professionals in getting back on their feet. The Division recommends veterans to him all the time who are seeking opportunities. He is a solid resource for our community!

I had the pleasure of meeting John R. Fugazzie through the group that he founded Neighbors-helping-Neighbors at my local public library. I was able to attend presentations that his group sponsored with recruiters, employment managers and subject matter experts. The group that John founded and directed provided immeasurable support to those who were unemployed and under employed trying to update and expand their skill set in a very difficult economy. John is a hard driver so if you are looking for someone to coddle you look elsewhere. However if you are looking to increase your skills, knowledge and marketability John's a great contact to have. He is highly recommended.

I have worked with Neighbors helping Neighbors which is the group that John founded, during the last several years that I was unemployed. It was a nice group of likeminded people that was helpful to brainstorm with on our job searches. I was in touch with John several times and he was always helpful and encouraging and had ideas to offer just for the asking. I believe he tries to help everyone who crosses his path with finding their way to a rewarding job.

Karen Werthwein   Account Executive at C&S Wholesale Grocers   March 2, 2015

Two days after connecting with John through LinkedIn, I asked John to introduce me to one of his connections that had a job posted. Thanks to the introduction, I received an email request for my resume, had a phone interview with the corporate recruiter and then an in-person with the hiring decision-maker all within one week. I start at my new job next week. None of this would have been possible without John's introduction. I am very thankful for the connection and also for his caring for someone he just met through LinkedIn. Thank you so much!!!!

The history of every soul is that of a love which fills every time and at the same time is open to new horizons, for God continually stretches the soul's possibilities to make it capable of ever greater goods. God himself, who has sown the seeds of good in us and from whom every initiative of holiness stems, "models the block..., and polishing and cleansing our spirit. This is the true spirit of John R Fugazzie as he has done wonders for the job seekers in New Jersey, Long Island and across the USA

Roderick (Roddy) Negron - Product Manager  Marketing | Planning | Branding | Development | Project Management  September 2, 2014

I first met John soon after I began my job search back in the spring of 2011. He had recently founded Neighbors-helping-Neighbors and was quick to invite me to join this wonderful program that serves so many in need of guidance and support. John is a unique blend of the gregarious neighbor and business professional that will not hesitate to offer someone in need some advice. He is a dynamic communicator with a strong work ethic with the ability to inspire others. I worked with him and his team of volunteer moderators as the organization grew and produced success story after success story of members that succeeded in landing with the help of NhN. He has experienced great things on his recent life journey and continues to live by the credo of paying it forward. John would undoubtedly be a great addition to any organization in need of an executive to lead and inspire to achieve great success.

John is one of the most amazing, dynamic guys I've met in a long time. His brain-child, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, has been an incredible success story and has helped thousands of job seekers in the relatively short time it has been in existence. He started this organization from nothing, no income, no seed money, no staff...just a simple and powerful idea. To see it blossom like it has is quite impressive. John's drive, energy and commitment has been the force behinds NHN's phenomenal growth. I think this organization has the potential to go national someday and I will be proud to say I know the man who started it all.

Doug Brooks  Director, Client Success - Legal Division/Bloomberg Law at Bloomberg BNA January 27, 2013

I had the privilege of meeting John through my participation in the group he founded, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, first as a weekly meeting attendee and then as a board member. He is a true leader, with incredible passion and energy and the ability to utilize available resources effectively and efficiently. John has the innate ability to get things done with skill and precision, no matter how big or small the project - or the budget (even with $0) - or how imminent the deadline. Two weeks prior to the second anniversary conference for Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors, we lost our venue due to a scheduling mishap on the part of that venue. Without flinching, John shifted gears and quickly set a new plan in motion. He procured a replacement venue, raised $2,600 in a week and arranged for several high value speakers to present on a pro-bono basis. In Neighbors Helping Neighbors, John created and leads an ever-expanding group that serves as an incubator for the continuous flow of "pay-it-forward" acts by others. This pay-it-forward mentality, which John spearheaded, pervades through NHN's members, leaders, friends, and, often, complete strangers. Very few people - if any - could do what John has done with NHN. With no money, he has taken a local weekly meeting group of 3 or 4 people and turned it into a nationally-recognized organization with over 1000 members.

I became involved with John's incredibly successful "Neighbors helping Neighbors" program earlier this year by giving a series of personal branding presentations in the metropolitan NYC area. It became clear to me that John's NhN program was more than just a great idea ... it was the missing link in getting people connected to those who could actually help them -- who in most cases were local residents, merchants and business professionals. As an event presenter, I learned that John has a clear mastery of logistics and planning. While many individuals claim to be creative problem-solvers, I've met very few who can execute on that claim as effectively as John Fugazzie. Please check out NhN events in your neighborhood whenever possible ... you won't be disappointed!

We are facilitators and members of a large and rapidly growing, free volunteer led job support and networking group started by John Fugazzie. I was extremely disappointed to learn that he was impacted by the recent downsizing at the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. As the founder of the Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA organization John has helped thousands of people in the Greater New York area and beyond to survive in a challenging economic environment. John has created, led, and transformed a grass-roots group with no funds into a potentially nationwide organization that has gained considerable media attention in recent months, and was invited to a White House Forum with the Secretary of Labor now making NhN nationally recognized.

His leadership, organizational skills and ability to make things happen for people facing difficult times is a rare gift. Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA has provided training, support, and a renewed sense of hope for many. It has brought together people of diverse backgrounds into a community where helping others is the primary goal. Hundreds have returned to work as a result of his efforts and each week brings new success stories. John’s professional credentials speak for themselves. At a time when business organizations encourage their employees to engage in local outreach and volunteerism, John is a beacon of light. He is an inspiration for others to give back to their communities. I cannot imagine a better way for a company to demonstrate its commitment to the people and communities where it does business than employing people like John. I sincerely hope that your organization could consider finding a place for John in your organization.

I have never met anyone with the leadership and drive John has. He is very bottom-line oriented with a long track records of success. John knows how to get the most out of a team, gets results, and is a real good guy. He is an expert at marketing and negotiating who is very savvy at social media. In his spare time, John founded and leads a career transition and support group called Neighbors-helping-Neighbors USA Inc. which quickly grew from a small group meeting in a single library to one with 20+ locations and 182 member job successes thanks largely to John. I suggest you grab him quickly and with both hands!

Hard-working, committed, and driven are just some words to describe John. I don't know when he sleeps! He continues to grow Neighbors-helping-Neighbors while working full-time because he truly cares about enhancing the lives of others who are facing the frustrations and challenges of unemployment. I find his energy invigorating and contagious and I look forward to continuing to help him reach his goals for the organization.

Hi John,
I hope this email finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to thank you and Neighbors helping Neighbors (NHN) for all your support.  After being out of work and thinking that I have tried everything, I stumbled upon NHN at the perfect time. I walked passed the Fort Lee library and noticed a sign saying “Looking for a Job? Monday meeting 7pm.” At that point, I had nothing to lose. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcome. It was a room of individuals like me, and I realized in that moment I was NOT alone. There were several suggestions made that night I had not even considered before. Leaving the meeting, I felt like I made new friends and finally had a support system. After personally meeting you at Bergen County Community College, I was even more encouraged by your suggestions and LinkedIn contacts.

I am happy to report I have found a job and am very happy, thanks to you and NHN. I owe so much to you.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Best regards,
Scott

Hi John,
I just saw your post on LinkedIn regarding the NhN weekly meetings in Fort Lee.
I am interested in volunteering as a facilitator. I have done workshops on job search as director of a training program, and I teach adult ed at night.
If you are looking for speakers on specific topics, I have been thinking a lot about the following things lately and would love to put together a presentation on:
  • how to break into the “gig economy”
  • social media marketing for struggling small businesses
Let me know how I can help.

Hi John,

Just wanted to tell you that I got the job at Maher & Maher! I’m hoping to start next week.

I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to learn about my situation and give me an immediate referral to a position that feels like a perfect fit!

I know it wouldn’t have worked out so well if I had applied anonymously through their website.

Thanks again for your wisdom, guidance, and generosity.

My grant-funded position expired and I got laid off in late 2017. Between December and March I interviewed with eight different institutions, filled out tons of applications, attended all kinds of networking events and job fairs, yet nothing seemed to be working out. I was about ready to give up, but I always enjoyed doing workshops and presentations, so when I saw a post on LinkedIn about Neighbors-helping-Neighbors, I offered to volunteer. John Fugazzie got back to me right away and explained their philosophy and approach. He also asked about my situation and gave me several good job leads. Without me even mentioning it, he was able to hone in on my skill set and suggest spot-on matches with companies I’ve always admired. Better yet, he referred me personally. It’s worth noting that each time he forwarded my resume, someone from the company responded quickly, which I think speaks to the reputation of the organization, the preparation of its members, and the relevance of referrals. Thanks to NhNUSA, I am about to start a new position with a company that’s always been on my Top 10 list!

Recent Success Story  Jerry Saul

Hello John. How are you? I hope good. I spoke with Joe Traynor at Cranford NHN and wanted to let you know that I did land a spot after a long transition. I know networking groups like NHN helped me a lot in gaining self-confidence and just being around a supportive group of people every week. While in transition its easy to get unmotivated and its hard to be positive 100% of the time. So thanks to Joe, Matt, Mary, Pat  and all the folks who kept NHN  going in Cranford. They're really nice and supportive folks. They all helped a lot as did the weekly members. I will do my best to get back there now as well.

Through persistent networking with personal contacts I was able to transition to a web administrator position where I do CRM, e-com, content and other digital marketing functions. I have a consumer marketing background and I was working as a retail project merchandiser for a while but this new spot is a leap forward in the skill set and career development areas. So I'm thankful for it and to all the people who I met and became friends with during my period in transition.

Best of luck to you as you grow NHN. It's good to have a local networking/support group available and I would recommend it to other people going through career transitions.

Beyond the members who have landed the other great value we provide as a group is the continued support and motivation that the attending weekly meetings can provide to all the members conducting a job search campaign. This is a very difficult and challenging process and having the great support of all our members both at meetings and in our LinkedIn group is beyond explanation. You must experience for yourself to fully understand the power of this group and its members.

NhNUSA is a lifetime membership as all experts we talk to are saying that jobs and work is more short term and more temporary today in this changed economy we are faced with. It is important to know that long tenures are a thing of the past we need to keep our networking and job search skills up to date and every week we will have members meeting in libraries to help each other with this challenging task. There have been several more and will be more each week but the common theme to all of the success stories is the members unselfish willingness to support and encourage each other at weekly meetings, this positive approach for all is inspiring to anyone who becomes involved with this group of people and who take courageous step
s to find their well deserved jobs.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests
